Objectives of the missions:

  • Assessment of the laboratory and of its environment
  • Recommendations for improvement and better use of the available molecular biology equipment in the framework of the malaria surveillance system

Five major themes were assessed and discussed:

  • Premises: laboratory space, premises and organization (facility design)
  • Technical: available PCR machine (together with power supply, computer and software), small equipment (pipettes, micro centrifuges, vortex), and required consumables
  • Human resources: training will be mandatory, both for extraction process, mix preparation, PCR run and PCR analysis.
  • Financial: support to buy the calibration of the PCR equipment), training and reagents to start, as well as routine work if any planned
  • Quality: SOPs and procedure to be developed for the associated technique to be implemented
