    Date: From Mar 14, 2014 to Aug 31, 2018
    Country: Kazakhstan
Support for International Laboratory Certification, Kazakhstan- Project funded by DTRA. The purpose of this project with Integrated Quality Laboratory Services (IQLS) (“Subcontractor”) is to provide support to the Prime Contractor (CH2M HILL, Inc.) for the management and effective transition of the operations and sustainment of CBEP-engaged facilities in Kazakhstan. The U.S. DoD and the GoK agreed to construct a BSL-3 Laboratory attached to the RIBSP Zoonotic Disease Laboratory (ZDL) in Otar and a CRL on the premises of the Kazakh Scientific Center for Quarantine and Zoonotic Diseases (KSCQZD) in Almaty. The BSL-3 Laboratory provides a safe and secure area for conducting research on GoK (Ministry of Education and Science) collections of EDPs stored at RIBSP in Otar, and strengthens RIBSP’s scientific capabilities. The CRL will provide more secure storage for GoK (Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture) EDP collections as well as strengthen the scientific capabilities of KZ and Central Asian scientists. Staff at RIBSP and the CRL will provide maintenance of national pathogen collection and novel laboratory-based research at each EDP storage location. IQLS will  assist Prime Contractor, DTRA, and GoK in achieving laboratory certification for the RIBSP BSL-3 and CRL. To provide certification support, IQLS will: - Manage and coordinate laboratory certification activities, as directed by CH2M HILL. - Provide support to CH2M HILL in facilitating the certification by an independent, third party agent experienced in BSL-3 and CRL capabilities. Dr Antoine Pierson and M Arnaud Orelle trained local assessors, performed an assessment of the national SES laboratory system and of the laboratory networking capabilities as well as how this system is used for quality assurance, communicable disease surveillance, and data management. They assess existing laboratory capabilities, using an established set of metrics based on the WHO Laboratory Assessment Tool (LAT), and both its systems and facilities components.
