Central Media Making Laboratory Evaluation, University of Health sciences, Cambodia

The Media Making Laboratory (CMML) based in University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh, begin operating in early 2013. The CMML provides agar plates and blood culture bottles to six provincial hospital laboratories free of charge. Currently the CMML is financially supported by the Diagnostic Microbioly Development Program (DMDP). Other organizations and hospitals have expressed an interest in purchasing media and blood culture bottles from the CMML. As the CMML must become self sustaining by the end 2015, an assessment has been requested. IQLS expert will conduct an assessment of the quality of the laboratory and the media produced to determine strenghts and gaps, will evaluate the organizational structure of DMDP in collaboration with the DMDP President and the Chief Scientific Officer. He will determine if the CMML is ready to become independant and provide recommendations and a plan of action. A mission on site is organized from 20th to 25th October 2014.

Training on publication skills and proposal writing

Dr Frederick Gay (IQLS consultant) trained 7 scientific staff of the National Center for Parasitology, Entomolgy and Malaria Control. The objectives were : - To transfer skills to respond to a call for tenders by preparing and writing a proposal - To transfer skills to prepare and to write down a paper to be submitted for publication.
Assessment of the National Laboratory System and Facilities

In the frame of a CDC contract, Dr Antoine Pierson and Mr Arnaud Orelle spent 3 weeks in Cambodia during October 2013 to assess 22 laboratories all around the country. The Cambodian laboratory system was also assessed. Previously in July, they trained 12 local assessors for standardized facility assessment, using a laboratory assessment tool specifically refined for Cambodia. Then, between November and December 2013, the same IQLS experts performed a 4-week laboratory assessment in India. Forty-seven laboratories were assessed in 13 different states within the country. Two different laboratory systems were also assessed, and 14 local assessors were trained for standardized facility assessment, using a refined laboratory assessment tool specifically for India
